My entry for the Annual Spring Hunt featuring BTs Black Tie and Harley
Class: Cross Country

~~~
 Harley adjusted the straps to Jack's brown bridle, the black stallion waiting patiently for her to complete tacking him up. She pulled the piece of leather through the buckle, listening to the bustle of Dragon Acres grounds. Stables from around the globe had come to compete in their Annual Spring Hunt. The sun shone brightly on the first of three days of competition. Harley was preparing herself and Jack for the first event of the day, Cross Country. Harley and the rest of the staff and horses had arrived the evening before, settling their horses in for the night. Harley had enjoyed getting caught up with the SFR staff that night before they went to bed.
    Lost in her thoughts, Harley barely noticed Anne walking by with Jessie in tow. Jessie's large feathered wings startled Harley for a moment but she quickly relaxed.
"Good morning!" Anne said cheerfully in greeting, continuing on down the stable halls, Jessie's hoof steps echoing slightly.
"Mornin'" Harley replied, doing a once-over to make sure Jack's tack was in check one last time. She smiled approvingly, patting the stallion on the neck. She stood there admiring his groomwork, which Ben had lent a hand in. When she turned around, ready to lead Jack out of the stables, she was met with the faces of her husband and son.
"Mom!" Jason, her son, called, running into her arms into which she picked him up and hugged him tightly.
"Mom!" her husband imitated jokingly with a chuckle.
"What's up munchkin?" she asked, setting him back down on the ground. She glanced over at Thomas with a smile, wrapping her one free arm around his waist, holding Jack's reins in the other.
"Daddy and me wanted to come wish you good luck," Jason answered, turning to Jack who had lowered his head so the small boy could reach him. Jason pet his muzzle gently, the large stallion's ears twisting and turning as he listened to them talk.
    Harley grinned, ruffling his brown hair. "Well thank you. Don't know what I'd do without my boys." she smiled, planting a kiss on Thomas's cheek before she approached Jack.
'Would all Cross Country entrants approach the starting line'
Harley heard a loud voice speak. Her son pushed the bucket towards Jack's side for her to help her mount the tall stallion. "Thanks sweetie." she said, getting comfortable in the saddle. She hadn't showed since before she had given birth to Jason - 5 years. She was nervous but excited at the same time. As she exited the stable she looked back to see her family waving.
Jack soared over the fallen oak tree as they advanced through the thickly shrouded forest. The sun was gaining way in the sky as they came towards the exit of the forest path. It led into a large prairie which then turned into the mountainous trail they would also be taking. Harley was intensely focused on getting through the course, the wind blew what little hair that escaped her helmet askew. The thoroughbred pushed forward with ease, cutting through the grass like a fish through water. His black coat shined in the sunlight as they flew across the plains. Harley felt as if she was upon one of the winged horses at WWR. She loved Jack and was contented that she was being able to ride him once more.
